F1 status validity

I came to the U.S on f-1 visa for the Spring 2007 semester. I completed one semester and went back to my country due to my mother's health problems. Now, I want to come back for fall 2008. The visa stamp on my passport is valid. Can I just get a new I-20 from the same or a different school and travel or do I also have to go the consulate again with the new I-20 and get a new visa stamp?

Your visa stamp should be still valid but you need a new I-20.
