F1 revalidation

Hello,

I am currently on OPT and need to go to a conference in Canada. My concern is that I originally came to the US on J1 and then changed my status to F1, so in my passport I only have an expired J1 stamp. The law about visa revalidation in contiguous territories http://www.isso.cornell.edu/immigration/visas/autoreval.html says that F1 students with a valid I-20 can re-enter the US without the actual visa stamp, provided they have the I-94 form. But one is supposed to submit the I-94 while leaving the US. So how does it actually work? Is it possible to give the copy of I-94? What are the odds of not being allowed back to the US?

As far as i know the automatic revalidation is removed by the INS even if you have the valid I-94 in 18 aug 2003....lots of schools give wrong information, if you want more info do check in department of state website

Well, the link you gave says that you can't revalidate your visa only if you are from certain countries or you applied for another visa while you were in Canada. Other than that you can still revalidate your visa. And I've heared that people did that after 2003.
