F1 Renewal

Hi Folks,
I am currently pursuing a PhD. here in the US. My F1 expires in June next year, but my I-20 is valid until 2009. I was wondering if I should get my visa renewed in Canada. I did read a couple of posts on this forum, and I want to know if people were successful in getting their visas renewed. I have complete financial support from my school, and my grades arent very bad either.
Thanks

I successfully did it in summer 2002, but couldn't really speak how it is now. You should definitely consult to an International Student Advisor from your school. Also, if you're planning to do so during the summer, why not going back to your country? Is your time limited? It's definitely safer to do that in your country; only factors you may want to do in Canada may be time and traveling cost.

My personal impression I got back in 2002 at the Consulate was that having a big scholarship from the school may help, while they don't really care about grades (I brought my transcript, which was pretty awesome, but they didn't even take a look).
