Hi friends,
           I am on H1 and have been laid off for 2 months. Can i covert my status to F1. I have applied to colleges for a masters program and should be hearing from them soon. Please tell me once i get admission in a college how easy is it to get a I20. Also please tell me once i get a I20 do i have to apply for a change of status? What documents I need? Also can i go to Canada and get my F1 stamped? Is it safe?

Please reply friends i am in need of your help.

i have got the f1 approval form the ins in three weeks
have to get my visa stamped as an f1 though
have applied through the school

i have filed through the schools international office and i have not submitted any paper work to them
i do not know what they have submitted to the ins though

Hi Vijay, could you please let me know what all documents or paper work did the school ask you for to change your status, I mean did the school ask you for your pay stubs, h1 petition papers, etc. This will be a great help.

the school did not ask me for any of the work realted stuff
all they have asked are copies of my passport, markslists and a covering letter explaining why i wish to change from h1 to f1.(also the normal stuff which we apply to the school for admission)
