F1 prof screw up

My friend has a valid F1 and visited his mother country because of emergency. While he was staying in his country, international office of his university asked his thesis advisor about his status and to confirm that he is a student still. However his advisor said "NO"(he does not confirm his status since he does not like him). So, it seems that he may be out of status in the foreign student registration database. He can not come back to the States and also cann not apply any other visa. He tried to contact his advisor but refused to talk to him. Is there any way to know his status ? Is there any way to save him ?

why would International office contact his professor? All they have to do is see if a student was enrolled in the last semester. That's strange. Have him contact his IC advisor, not his academic advisor.

You are saying: he may be out of status. DID he contact his IC or not?

Even if he is out of status, why wouldn't he be able to apply for any other visa?

Thanks for the comment and I am sorry i do not know F1 in detail.
He contacted international office and his advisor of international office said that his thesis advisor in his academic department refused to confirm his case implying he is NOT a student. It seems that the international office let USCIS know he is no loger a valid student. Do you think it is not normal case ?

What he is worrying about is that he might be rejected his enterance when he returns to the US with his F1 which might be not valid.

Since he has F1, a different visa might be rejected.

Was he enrolled in the last semester? How long has he been out of the country? Did he get his I-20 signed before he left?

If he was enrolled, then his professor saying he is not a valid student has no bearing on his status. In any case, Int. office doesn't call academic advisors to confirm the status.

If a student is not enrolled and is working on his thesis, some schools allow him to take a reduced load or to enroll in "exam only" class, for which his advisor would give him a letter for the International office.

You say " It seems that the international office let USCIS know he is no loger a valid student. " Did they or did they not change his SEVIS record to "terminated"? If they did, then he needs to get reinstated, get a new I-20 for the same program, etc. If not, then he can come back with his valid visa and valid I-20.

Make him contact his international center and get the information straight: Is he or is he not terminated in the SEVIS system.
