F1(OPT) to O1 to H-1B HELP!

I am currently in F-1 status (in OPT). My OPT expires in May 2007 which means that for 5 months I have to leave the country, my job and then come back in october when the H-1B is valid. Is there ANY way that I could stay in US as anticipation for the H-1B? As one solution, it was decided to apply for O1 visa. I have not received international awards or something similar. I have published 9 articles, which have been cited several times and contributed writting with other a book chapter. The O1 application will be done premium now in february, do you think is there enough time to get an answer before the end of my OPT? If not, again do you have any ideas? Thanks

LucyMo, thanks for your suggestion. Do you mean register again as an student in the university? I finished my studies last year and I am now in my one year OPT.

HI Cvdjv,

I am in similar situation and also considering O visa.

Can O visa be processed in premium status (withing 15 days) like H1b?

please advice.

yes, that's exactly what I mean. You have to get a new I-20 within 60 days of your OPT expiration date. Don't get it too early, coz you'll forfeit the remainder of your OPT.

Hi gcebphd,
Yes, O1 visa can be processed in premium status (in 20 calendar days you will have the answer). The fee for this processing is $1000
