F1 OPT or H1

I began to work from 10/2001 using F1 OPT which is valid until 09/2002. I may have filed some employment eligibility document in HR in the first day of work. My H-1 was approved in 05/2002. Does it mean my status has been automatically changed from F-1 to H-1? Should I fill a new document in HR. One administration secretary (not in HR) gave me my H1 approval notice. I am curious to know how HR knows I am working as a H-1 or OPT.

File I-9

that is the document that shows what underlying employment eligibility you are using for working in that company.

Your h1 days have started counting from the approval date in that notice. You already crossed more than 180 days in your OPT to derive tax sops.

So, File I-9 and become one of the thousands of white collar slaves of america.
