F1 --> Opt --> F1

I am a physician planning to start residency on OPT. only PGY1. The enquiriy is regarding OPT to F1

Can I start a new course on F1 status, on completing OPT? I plan to drop my residency at the end of PGY1 if they do not sponsor h1b, and maintain my status on F1.

you'll have to be accepted into a new program and get a new I-20 before or within 60 days of the expiration date on it. Then you have to start school in the first available semester.
