F1 and married to US citizen (travel)

Hi,

I was a F-1 student when I met my wife(an American citizen). We got married and have filed adjustment of status for me. So I'm currently an F-1 with AOS pending.

I would like to travel with my wife to France(my country). I went to my school's international office and got my I-20 signed to travel, but is this enough in order for me to come back to the US with my AOS?

I heard about the I-131(Application for Travel document). Do I (an F-1 student) need to apply for one before traveling abroad?

Thank you very much.

You HAVE to have an Advance parole to travel abroad. Otherwise, you could try to come back on F-1 visa, but you forfeit your AOS application as soon as you leave the States.
