F1 and GC question

Hello. I am applying for a GC through my wife. I will mail the package out in the next week. I am in the US (and have been) as a F1 Student. My F1 visa runs out in June of this year. How do I proceed and how can I avoid leaving the country, if the GC application takes longer (which it will, I assume). Thank you for you input. I did do a search first, by the way.

Once your I-485 is filed you are authorized to stay in the US until it is approved or denied. Make sure you apply for AP if you wish to travel.
