F-1 visa renewal in Canada

Hi,

I'm a nigerian student in the US. Just completed by BS and I'm starting my Masters in April.

I need to attend a conference thats outside America, so I need to get my F-1 stamped again.

I came in April 2002, went home December 2002 and came back January 2003. Since then I havent been home. My F-1 expired Feb 2004, but my i-20 is still current.

What do you think my chances are of getting the F-1 renewed in Canada?

Any idea if the consular office in any particular Canadian city is better than others?

I'll be grateful for any input, esp from those that have actually been in this situation.

Thanks

Hi,
Sice you are going to attend a conference, getting a letter of support from the professor whom you are working for explaining why you should go to the conference would be extremely useful and also explaining that you are busy with research and hence cannot go home for the visa.In the meantime for your master's program having strong financial support ( teaching or research assistantship) would be very helpful. Finally you need to show that you plan to return to home country after your education (document strong family ties back home). Hope this is helpful. Good luck

I have a few questions about the change of visa status.(I am an Indian citizen)
I plan to change my visa status from H4 to F1 . I want to go to Mexico for that.

Which one do you think is a better option ,Going to India or Canada /Mexico?
If any of you have been to Mexico/Canda /India ,Please Let me know about your
experiences .
In case of rejection of my F1 , Can i come back to US on my H4 (H4 is valid
till 2008)?
Also , do we have to submit the I-539 form for change of status?or only
Ds-156,DS-157, DS-158?

Your reply is needed urgently , and will be greatly appreciated.
