F-1 Visa expired, job transfer pending, can I travel days for a job conference?

How do I get inside the USA after days on travel? Must I get a new visa stamp on my passport? How do I get that? What documents must I show (my old employer's H-1B paper doc, receipt for the new H-1B paper that's pending)? How long is an average wait -- could I get it just days while attending the the conference itself? How can my employer help me get the new visa?

I appreciate very much your help. Thank you.

Why are you worried about expired F1 while you are on H1.
To enter the US, you need unexpired visa stamp associated to your status.

Thanks for the quick answer. But if the conference is just a matter of days, how can I get a new visa stamp on my passport -- others say in the forum that it took them a month of waiting in some consulates, e.g. Canada, to get a new visa stamp. Is this the average or normal time of waiting? Since I'll be on work-related travel outside the country, I will be expected by my agency to return the next day after the conference. Is there a way to expedite the visa stamp process? What about me arranging an appointment with, and mailing the needed documents to the US consulate in that country while I'm still here in the US, just days before leaving?

Thanks again.
