F-1 to F-2 Visa Conversion While in the US

Hello, I’d like your opinions on F-1 to F-2 transfers while physically being present in the US. Is one required to go through the whole DS-160 process again? Or do we just send in the I-539 application with required documents? Also, if the status is approved, is it legal to continue staying in the US without getting the visa stamped or do we immediately go home to get the visa stamped post status change approval? Please provide your inputs! Thank you in advance!

No DS160 submission required for a COS from within the US, and you do not need to depart from the US to get a new visa stamp upon COS approval from F1 to F2.
