F-1 to B-1 - help please

Hello everyone,

I am currently in the F-1 status and would like to abandon my school, convert to B-1 and leave after six months. I have been in the F-1 status for a couple of months, and its duration was supposed to be 3 years.

Does anyone have any advice or caveats? I do not want to jeopardize future visa applications. The purpose of my stay is to pursue an independent business project - it is not on behalf of an employer abroad and does not involve working for anyone or being paid. How easy will it be for me?

Many thanks in advance.

Do you think it would be easier for me to go back to my home country and apply for a B-1 visa there? I've heard that applying for a new visa is much quicker than converting status.

In theory they should look upon my case sympathetically, because I am giving up a three-year status for a 6-month one. Correct?

Thanks.

In theroy , you are giving the USCIS more work , you are complicating your case .
Why would you want to be on a B1 ? As an F1, You have to maintain your status by being in School , and attending the required credits of study .
Your change of status really depends on your reasoning to be on a B1 .
Just my 2 cents ! .
