F-1 student, doing CP, I-134 question.

Hello,

I'm currently a grad student (F-1) in US. I'll be doing CP probably in April, in my home country, Turkey.

I am currently supported by my department at the university, as a research assistant receiving stipend + tuition. I want to know whether I will need to provide an I-134, and if so, whether it is the department who is my sponsor, as my employer. It seems a little odd, because the I-134 ask for an employer (a person, in my case would that be the department head?), and detailed information (birth date and stuff) for that person.

Do you think a letter from the employer is enough, or the I-134 is absolutely necessary?

Thanks,

I-134 is signed and attested to by a person (not a department) using his personal funds/salary/etc. Because that person will be responsible for you using federal benefits if you apply for any in your first 3 years, and will be responsible to supporing you at a 100% level of poverty line.

A letter of employement should be more than enough.
