F-1 renewal in Ottawa in August '06 end (please share experiences)

Hi All,
I have booked an appointment for F-1 visa renewal on Aug. 31 in Ottawa Embassy. If someone has been there before for F-1 renewal, please share your experiences. I have some questions:

* Is it necessary to rent a car? If not, then what is the best alternative.
* My I-20 was issued prior to Sevis system. Hence, I have not paid the sevis fees ($100). I believe I do not have to pay it as my I-20 was issued before Sevis system. Can anyone confirm this?
* How is the Ottawa Enbassy in general? Is it easy or tough?
* Do they handover the passport the same day or next business day?
(my appointment is on Thurs. and the next Mon. is labor day. Hence, I am very concerned about this).

I would really appreciate any feedback on these questions and also, if anyone can share their experiences with Ottawa visa stamping.

Visa renewed. Experience posted

I got my F-1 visa renewed on Aug. 31 in Ottawa. Very easy. About 30-40 people there. Got passport the next day at 3 pm. nO QUESTIONS asked. One of the Enbassy officer was an Indian guy, but I got called by a white lady. Good luck to all.
