F-1 Extension

I am a F-1 student, came into the united states in 2002. My visa was issued for a period of 5 years. I completed my first degree in 2 years and got admitted into another univesity in 2004. My current degree requires me to stay in US till 2008, but my F-1 visa is expiring the summer of 2007. As per my I-20, my university permits me to stay in the country till 2009.

I want to know what is the best was to extend my F-1 Status if it is possible?
Do I need to leave the country and go through the interview process once again?


I would appreciate if anyone could respond to my questions?
