Extension Question - Parents got 2 separate dates on I94

I would appreciate any help with my situation. My parents are visiting me for the first time and the Immigration officer at POE had stamped 3 months of stay for my mother and 6 months for my father. (obviously I told them not to argue with immigration officers!). I would really like them to stay for 6 months and wanted to get some pointers on whether it is valid to ask for a extension for my mom too based on this situation. Any experiences similar to these?

Also, my mom's I94 date expires early Jan, should I try for an extension right away?

thanks in advance.

Best thing you can do is have them return after 3 months. You can have them come back sooner next year. Applying for an extension is a big risk and you may put your parents visa in jeopardy by applying for an extension.

My Two Cents

Just by applying for an extension would not create any problem to the existing immigrant visas.

Anybody can go ahead and apply for an extension ,

if you are lucky and got extension

{
you enjoy the extended stay.

}
else

{
YOU SHOULD LEAVE THE COUNTRY AS DIRECTED BY USCIS
/*
If you dont leave the country as directed, your visa "might" get
canceled
*/
}

Saradhib,
You mother got a restricted I-94. Restricted I-94s handed at a POE usually mean the officer was not convinced with the applicant's visit intentions. This does not stop you from applying for an extension for your mother, but in my opinion, holders of restricted I-94s should ideally leave before their I-94s run out.
