Extension of TN via I129

I am currently on TN expiring in 6 months on the same date of my passport expiration. I have renewed my passport now and would like to extend the TN with same employer, same job and same TN classification. As the current processing time is 2 months and I have enough time, I am thinking of extending it via I129 instead of going to the border

I have a few questions and need help:

1. Does the i129 need to be signed, paid ( check) and mailed by HR or employer ( not planning on attorney) or I can pay and mail on my own with the signature of HR?
2. In terms of documents, I am planning to send, I 129, TN letter, check, copies of degrees, copies of passport ( current valid passport and old with previous TN ( invalid now). Do i need anything else?
3. In the I129, it asks for I 94 number for the current status and passport number. Do i write the expired passport number on which i received TN ( invalid now) or the current valid passport number because the I 94 will not match my current passport number in case they try to match?
4. Is this the correct option to chose? Extend the status of a nonimmigrant classification based on a free trade agreement. (See Trade Agreement Supplement to Form I-129 for TN and H-1B1.)

Thanks a lot for your reply.

Nelsona,

Thanks for the answering the queries. As you have my attention, I have one more follow up question on this.

As my TN will expire in 6 months, what should be the effective date or start date on i129/ TN letter. Also, assuming that extension is rejected and I put in immediate start date on i129, does my original TN in expiring 6 months would be still valid for the remaining period?
Thanks.

You are asking for an extension, this is by definition starting on the expiry date of the current one. If USCIS rejects your petition, they will let you know what you need to do at that point.
