Extension of stay

my dad has a 10 year multi entry visa. last time went back on time. now the 6month period is expiring on jun,2003. we really need him for our new born baby.i have heard not to give this excuse to extend stay. my question
1.what can we write as a good reason to extend stay for another 6months
2.does going to canada to extend visa help
please suggest
