Extension of stay - few weeks longer than on letter of invitation

Hello all,

I came to the US on B1/B2 visa for business meetings and consultancy on August 20, 2010. The departure record I-94 indicates that I am allowed to stay until November 5, 2010 as "B1 class" visitor. My B1/B2 visa is valid until 2014.

The issue is that I had letter of invitation which I have shown to the immigration officer at the port of entry which stated that I had been invited just for two weeks. Now, my German employer wants me to stay in the US few more additional weeks (beyond what was in the invitation letter), that is about until September 18, 2010.

Could you please tell me if I am allowed to stay few additional weeks legally in the US without implications on my future business travels, and if yes, do I require an extension of letter of invitation or any other documents from my employer that should be sent to immigration authorities?

Thanks.
Sincerely,
David

No you don't need a letter, you can stay upto the date of your authorized stay on your I-94.
Your circumstances changed after the date your entered US that warrants additional stay and it is perfectly legal to stay in US until your authorized stay and will have no negative effect on subsequent visits.
BTW if you entered US on Aug 20, 2010, your authorized stay should normally be upto Nov 19, 2010 for B-1 instead of Nov 5, 2010.
