Extension for 2-3 weeks possible approval?

Hi All,

Thanks to all who have posted and replied. The information has been very helpful.

My parents are visiting and have a 3-month stamp and "R" written on the I-94. We just realized this and have 3 weeks remaining.

1) What does the "R" stand for?
2) We'd like to extend 2-3 weeks so we can celebrate Chinese New Year together. What are the chances of getting an approval for a short term extension?

Afterwards, they have a wedding to attend and a planned, paid trip to Europe.

(1) Most probably R stands for restricted. They should have ideally gotten I-94s valid for six month, unless they are from a VWP country and got a green I-94Ws. It seems the admitting officer wasn't too sure of your parents' intentions.
(2) I personally would not recommend applying for an extension on an annotated I-94.
