Extending Mother Stay Due To Medical Emergency

Hello, my mom had a medical emergency on October 29th and she was admitted to the ICU due to bleeding in the brain. Her B-2 visa will expire on January 23rd. She has a returning flight scheduled on January 18th. Due to her condition, I'd like to extend her stay with us here in the U.S. but I'm not yet certain at this point till when. How do I go about this? Please help. Thanks.

Your mother's condition may be an acceptable reason for an extension is she is still under crisis care at the expiration of her current authorized stay. Staying so that you might care for her will be viewed as attempting to live in the US on a visitors visas. You can always return with her to her home to care for her.

In addition, if she is receiving government paid medical care, she will be viewed as a public charge. This works to her disadvantage.

I hope you purchased Medevac insurance which will arrange for approriate transportation to her home country. Once the crisis has passed, it would be most appropriate for her to return to her home country where she can receive care paid for by her health care benefits.

"Medevac insurance"

Interesting, Concerned my mother will be coming to the US in Janurary for around 4-5 months she's around 76 should i also purchase Medevac insurance or is their any other kind of insurance i can purchase just to be on the safe side if she has to get any treatment.

Thanks

Sorry please note my mother is not ILL and is healthy as a horse (Thank God for that) for that she's just 76 and i had no idea one can actually purchase insurance just to be on the safe side.
Thanks

Any time my family travels outside the US, we purchase both coverage for emergency care in region of travel and medevac/repatriation - just in case of a problem Sadly, an acquaintance had their child die while on a school trip abroad; accidents and unexpected illnesses do happen.
