Extend B-2 parents, possibly applying for GC later. Advice please.

My parents are visiting for 6 months on a B-2 10 years visa. They might extend their stay due to a pregnancy and they might (or not) apply for citizenship when my brother becomes a citizen (already had interview, waiting for oath). Their I-94 will likely expire before oath ceremony.

1) How soon should they apply for the B-2 extension?
2) Should they send original or copy of I-94? (read contradictory opinions on this).
3) Is my sister in law pregnancy a good enough reason for extending their stay?
3) Is that going to affect them applying for a GC if they decide to do so?

Thanks.

A1: 45 days before I-94 expiry, if it is a genuine life/death emergency.
A2: Copy
A3: Not in my opinion. Anything that could have been addressed with a better timed initial entry is not a reason for EOS.
A4: A I-539 should not cause issues with an immeidate relative I-485.
