expiring passport on F-1

Hi to all,

My passport in which I have f1 visa will expire in few months. My current status is valid for 3 more years as noted on I94 and I20.
I have been advised that I have to contact my embassy to get a new passport.
Beside this i have a passport of another country valid for next 10yers, but i didn't use that passport to enter into the US.
Is there a way that i can use that passport not leaving the US in the case that the first one is not extended?

If you are not leaving the US, how will you use your other passport? I would advise you to extend the passport from your first country, specially if your F-1 visa sticker is still valid.

Is there a way that i can use that passport not leaving the US in the case that the first one is not extended?

Thanks for reply,

There is a chance that I will not get a new extended passport (so far waiting on it for 6 weeks), so I'm looking for possible solutions not leaving the states. F-1 visa is expired.

I-20 is more important than F-1 if you are in the US

regardless whether your F-1 visa is expired or not, what is important for your continuity to stay here legally is your I-20. make sure your I-20 is still valid. expired passport will not affect your legal stay as long as your I-20 is valid. i think you may only have a problem when you fly within the US with an expired passport. but you can resolve that if you have a state ID or driver's license. but of course, you must go to your embassy here in the US and have your passport renewed. i actually did that too.
