Hi everybody,

I found this group very useful, and hope you can help me.

I had a green card with 10 years validity. The issue date was 1992, and its expire date was 2002.
I left the country (US) in 1992, and could not come to US till 2012 which come here by F1 visa as student.

I want to know that is there any possibility to renew my green card?
I heard that green card maybe expire but will not cancel, and there may be some way to renew it.

thanks for your help in advanced.

Are you serious? You lost your permanent resident status by staying outside the US for 20 years. It is impossible to renew that green card.

You have to apply for a new green card and go through the whole process all over again. Alternatively, you may be able to claim US citizenship if your parents had US citizenship when you were in the US with a green card in 1992 and you were under 18 at that time.

Your green card and permanent resident status died many years ago. Unfortunately there is no resurrection for it. You have to go through the process again. Perhaps through employment sponsorship after graduation, marrying a US Citizen spouse or permanent resident, or maybe you derived citizenship from a parent like Jackolantern suggested.

Cheers!

Biometric for GC at age 14yrs

Hi,

We have 2 kids aged 15 and 19. We missed filing their G1 form and getting their biometrics for GC done. The USCIS website says this should have been done within 30 days of their turning 14yrs. Is it ok to file it even now? The GC is expiring in Nov 2015.

Regards

Expiring in 2015 that means they were issued in 2005, which is more than 5 years ago. Did you or their other parent become a US citizen? If yes, one or both of the teens may already be US citizens.

Thanks for your quick reply.

No. None of us have become citizens. We have an approved N470 and we have been sent by our company to India and currently live in India. We have been travelling back and forth and maintaining the status. In fact, we all need to apply for our GC renewal in 2015.
