expired passport

After more than 5 years as GC holder, I am now preparing to apply for US citizenship. Ever since I arrived here I never left the country even a single day. I never bother to renew my passport of my country of origin because I have no plan of leaving the country in the future. This passport expired last year. My question is should I renew my passport only for the purpose of showing it during interview or is it still OK to present the one and only expired passport? Your advice on this matter is very much appreciated. Thank you

If you are a GC holder, there is nothing in the law that says that a requirement for a GC is to keep you passport current. I read previous post that this but I disagree with Rahum and others on this. Hey only renew your passport if you are planning to travel. If no traveling, you can even go to your citizenship interview with an expire passport

Thanks for your suggestion Future-American. To Yalag: please guide me to the thread that discusses exactly this issue I am eager to know the opinion of others too. Thanks again.

mehope,
search for a post with my userid. I responded to that thread. you should be able to find it by my user id if other options to search don't work.

Hi mehope, I posted the same question just a week ago. The short answer is that you do not need to have a current passport if you are a green card holder and do not wish to travel outside of the u.s. The uscis does not care about your passport, they only care about the green card. I consulted a lawyer on this and she said this is common knowledge among immigration practitioners. So please rest assured that an expired passport is ok for N-400 interview. I plan to do that myself.
