Expired passport... is it a problem?

I currently hold a 10yr permanent residency. I recently received this couple weeks ago after having a conditional one.
I'm applying for a civilian job at a local Sheriff's Office and the job process has been pretty complicated thus far. I pretty much got the job and they are at the end of their background investigation. I just have to go to a "background intreview" soon. Not sure exactly what it will consists of... but from what I hear, it's only to just ask few questions which they might have been wondering throughout their investgation of my history.

Anyways... I was told to bring my passport along with other documents.
My home passport has recently expired last month. Will this be a problem as far as verifying my immigration status for my employment? I understand it may vary depending upon the investigator, but for the most part... is expired passport ever much of an issue, unless of course you are using it to travel out of country?

Thank you all in advance.

Permanent residents are not required to have a valid passport. Your green card by itself will prove your legal status.
