Expired GC question ??????

Hello Experts,

My uncle got family based GC few yrs ago ,right now it is expired and right now he is in India and wanted to come to US. What are the procedures to reinstate his GC.

His all children are here in US with US citizen ship) .

Please, advice us at your convinence.

If he stayed outside US for more than 1 year without first obtaining a re-entry permit, he loses his permanent resident status. There is no way he can re-instate that status unless he can prove that his stay outside US was a temporary one and that he has not abandoned US as his residence. If such proof is available, he needs to apply for a RETURNING RESIDENT VISA at a US consulate. Remember that that this visa is granted only rarely and only after sufficient documentation proving that he did not abandon his ties with US.
 
Could it be reapplied ? Since his children are US citizens, Will they apply fof GC again for him.
