Asking this for a friend...

She is in the US on F-1 visa and from what I can gather, the F-1 has expired... but she has a valid I-20 (I think). Does this mean she is still in status as F-1?

Can F-1 marry a USC or is F-1 a visa that you're not allowed to intend to become a Citizen?

A person married to a USC can get a Green Card as long as they entered the country legally (i.e. have an I-94). Overstays on visas are "forgiven". So yes, your friend can get a GC if she marries a US citizen.

by the way, if you have a valid I-20, it means ur still in-status as F-1, she simply wont be able to leave the country and come back without renewing her F-1 visa.
and yes you can marry a USC and apply for a GC. I was on F-1 myself before becomming a LPR.

As long the person has a valid I-20 and has been registering and taking classes every semester, she is F-1 in-status, even if the visa is expired.

the reason i was asking is that she is in her last semester of school, and wants to visit her country... My advice to her so far has been to finish her school before making any travel plans!... Do you not just need a new I-20 to re-enter... Sorry, this is going abit OT in the wrong forum category. originally posted as she was questioning about GC eligibility. Thanks for the replies so far.
