expiration of 2-year home residency requirement

Here is the question: I have spent 7 years in the US and will probably spend three more on J-1 visa. The initial visa had 212(e) HRR limitation. The following visas (also J-1) did not. However, I am aware that the limitation is still active.

Somebody told me that HRR may have an expiration time, that is, after a certain time it may be lifted. Has anybody heard of that? Thank you

no such luck. I had HRR in 1994, and just had to waive it this year so I could apply for AOS. It's just easier (my personal opinion - very subjective) to get a waiver, if your HRR was a long time ago....

Thank you for reply. But it may not be easier for me because I was funded by one of the US government agencies that is said to have very strict policy on not allowing the waivers. To my knowledge, even if it is "no objection" letter reason, at some point, the agency that issued the HRR will be contacted for their agreement on that and if it objects the issuance of a waiver - the waiver will not be granted. Although, I do not know a single person who would file for a waiver after this program. Consequently, I do not know whether anybody obtained or was refused to get the waiver - it is a rare case.
