Hello,

Need some information from folks in this newsgroup.

Will be getting married in Bombay in July and will be applying for my wife\'s
H-4 visa from the US consulate in Mumbai/Bombay. Wanted some feedback/replies
from some of you who may have gone through a similar process esp. in Mumbai.

1) For the consulate to issue a H-4 visa to my spouse, does her passport have
to reflect her new family name/surname ? Or do they issue visas if her
passport reflected her maiden name ?
2) What are the papers/documents, in addition to the below, that the US Consulate
   in Mumbai requires ?
        a) My valid passport with valid H-1B visa
        b) Spouse\'s valid passport
        c) My H-1B approval in original
        d) Letter from my employer stating current employment
        e) Latest W-2, tax returns and paystubs
        f) ??
3) Assuming that all papers etc. are in order, what is the typical turn-around time for
the consulate to issue the visa [i.e. how many working days are required for issuance ?]

Please send your replies to juzer@midnight.cruiser.com

You need some Marriage photographs & A MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE.This is a must.

It does not really matter if the passport is in the maiden name or the married name......

Make sure you take the a demand draft for the fees for processing the application.....do check the amount with the embassy & take the DD..in addition to the application fee....you need to pay the visa fee...which is $100.00....this can be paid in INR or USD in cASH.

You would get the visa stamped the same day......in case there is lot of rush.....may be you may have to collect it the next day....you are all set..
