Hello Everyone

I have completed 6 years on H1.We(Me and my Wife) recently went to India and had to Enter US using Advance Parole(AP).We want to share our experience.

At Bombay the Airline Agent wanted to have a look at the AP when he was
to Issue the Boarding Pass. He returned the AP papers back. After this
the Immigration Officer at Bombay also looked at the AP\'s and returned them back without any Questions.

When we showed the Passport(PP) and AP papers to the Immigration Officer at Newark NJ he put our PP\'s and the AP papers in a RED Envelope and sent both of us to meet a Supervisor. We handed over the Envelope to the Supervisor. After a wait for about 10 Minutes we got our Passports and I-94 Stamped for Another Year(JAN 2001) even thou our AP was valid for only one more month. Also our AP papers were returned. No additional Information was requested.

Thanks

Travel with AP.. Experience.

Except that in Bombay one of the officer checked our AP\'s and asked if we had the work permit. I did have it and showed them. Then she insisted that she needed to keep the original AP. She was pointing out on the AP where it said "TO ALIEN/TRANSPORTATION LINE/INS COPY" and insisted they (Transportation line people) need to get one.

I said that I was told I need to keep the original and I can give her a photo copy that I had. With little initial reluctance though, She took the copy and let me go.

I heard some others in similar situation had same experience in Bombay, where they insist to keep it. I do not know about the law and the actual technicality but being prepared with a photo copy should help them and us too.

In JFK:
The Imm officer gave red envelope and directed to a separate room.. First timers Do not worry about the separate room, It is not like a interrogation room or anything. Its more like a Govt office like SSAdmin office. We were not asked any questions, the officer and the gaurd were very friendly.

I personally suggest keeping as much documentation as possible like 485 receipts, EAD\'s, Empl letter, Business cards should help...for that just in case situation.

Hope this helps.
