Hi,
I got my greencard through asylum. I am an asylee from Syria. and to be honest my greencard, USCIS have 2 responses, they say they sent and it didn't come back and the other response that it was underliverable, both cases I don't have my greencard on me. And they told me to file form I90, they didn't let me file my application based on the choice that I never recieved my authorized card, they sent me another letter saying they sent it and I didn't recieve it, so they concluded that it was lost in the mail. I was approved December, 1 2005. So I had to file on the basis that it was lost, and had to file a report with mail inspectors that it was lost in the mail or never delivered, or god knows what happened to it.
I just got back from Syria and Jordan after bieng there for 8 months and on my way back on the airplane I thought I didn't need the exit/arrival form so I waited in line and then it was my turn and the IO started asking me questions like where were you? and I said Jordan..and he said for how long and I said 11 months...and he is like you know you shouldn't be in that neighbourhood..and then he took my travel document which was class asylee and we went showed me to a room where I couldn't take my handbag in with me and they put my travel document in a file and I sat there and waited for my name to be called, there was a lot of people in there..2 people from Kenya, I saw too, where there seeking asylum and the IO said to put there Passports in white files, I guess they didn't have a visa to enter and they were just seeking asylum. I told the immigration officer in the room, that I don't understand why I am here and that my friend outside is waiting for me and I need to call him if I am going to be late or something is bad is going to happen to me and he was nice to let me the call..He told me the reason why I am here is like when you are in high school..he said this is like the principal office, if you've done something bad he said something you'll be punished for and if you did something good you get a reward. After looking at my travel document, he said the reason you're here is because you didn't fill out a I-94 form and he made me fill one out in Spanish, coz they were out of the english ones..and then asked me where is your National passport and and I answered I lost it..and then he started matching the photo on the travel document with me, he was like is that you? and I smiled the same way I smiled in the photo, but he kept looking at it suspeciously. He then asked me "are you in a rock'n' roll band?" and I said "no" . I was wearing a jacket and he asked me to roll-up my sleeve to see the tattoos and then he asked "do they belong to some politic thing?" and I said "no". He then started to ask me about work, he is like do you work? and I said no, I recieve disability..I have a psychological disability..and then he went on and he was like... you should be working a smart guy like you who knows how to speak 2 languages should be working..all this time I would have taken a crap in my pants because I was really scared of what was going on..he then stamped the RTD and said he was going to take it because it is only valid for another 2 days..and I told him I would need it because if I need to file for a new one, they will ask me for the old one and he agreed and gave it back to me. Now when this was over..more questions..I went over to where you hand that custom paper to Customs guy and he is like Why are you here? and I said I live here and he didn't ask anything else..but then he asked to see what's in my bag and I opened it and showed him..and that was it..I got in...any comments about this is helpful..is there something that was going on that I don't know about..I am sure everything happens for a reason..but what are the reasons.. Oh, and did this ever happen to anyone, I got reciept for my I90 but it is not showing online..I got an actual reciept in the mail. I went to the office here to get a stamp and they said they will consider reviewing my case if I file the I90 and I have a proof of emergency..well my father is sick in Jordan and I am getting a doctor's letter from there, and I have a reciept for the I90 but it is not showing online and only the IO on the phone can see it and I told her about this problem and she's like they'll give you the stamp if you show them the reciept you got in the mail. but I am not gonna say she knows what she's talking about. I am interested in getting citizenship after 5 years now I understand that you can't be gone for 6 months or more so that's fine with me. but can I like go out for 5 months and then come back in for 2 weeks and then back out for 5 months..or is that dangerous? I also know that you can't be outside the united states for more than 30 months and I am fine with that too..but anyone who has more to say? Would be interested in other people's honest thoughts.
Thanks,
Yanal
PS: How long do I-90s take? I efiled mine.
