Expediting replacement GC

Hey all,

I might have missed the answer to my question, apologies if its been answered before.

I have lost my GC and need a new asap.

I am selling my house to a company that my employer is using to relocate me after a promotion, and their title company wants a copy of my GC, which I don't have. Ofcourse I already have a purchase agreement on a new house, but I need my old one sold for the DP. My whole world (and wife's & kids) is about to come crashing down if I can't get this taken care of soon.

What is the quickest way for me to get a replacement GC ? or something temporary with the same legal clout ?

I don't think of any other way except to apply I90 with "Card lost or stolen" option & with the receipt, go to the nearest USCIS office and get the I551 stamp on your passport.

Good luck

I think you're right. I talked to several immigration attorney's today also hoping to purchase my way into a speedy replacement, but no go. They all suggested to add a letter explaning my situation with the I90, some have had luck with it, others seem to suggest it all depends on the mood of whomever handles your app.

I-551 stamp is equivalent to the plastic card. Get an infopass and have your passport stamped.

I wish, that is expired and my embassy won't give me a new one without the greencard. They are worried I might have become an American and don't allow dual citizenship. Ouch.

Edit : This is my 2nd relocation with this company, only difference is that the relocation company is different. I'm not sure if this one is doing everthing the previous one should have done, or if this one is going overboard. Now they are saying I need a greencard to even buy a house, so even if I come up with my downpayment from elsewhere (401k being most likely choice) they won't let me buy a new home. Eitherway, I filed my I90 with a coverletter explaining the situation and am hoping for the best now.
