Hi,

Does anyone have any experience as to how the consulate stuff works inside...like what needs to be done when you reach the consulate, any tips on security etc.

Also, I heard that there are now "telephone receivers" just like they show on TV for jails...thru which people have to talk to the consular officers...is that true...when I went 4 yrs back, they just had one galss between us.

If yes, are there difficulties in managing the receiver, and showing them the docs ?

Any experience from people's parents who got the visa or visited the consulate will really really help....

My sis is going with 2 kids (1.5 yrs and 6 yrs)...so she is worried about how she will manage everything.

Please help.

You missed the most importan part - WHICH CONSULATE are you talking about. There are hundreds of cinsulates throughout the world, all may not have the same procedures.

Mumbai Consulate

Oops sorry.

I was referring to Mumbai consulate ... :) in India.

I found one posting on their site: http://usembassy.state.gov/mumbai/wwwhindpr104.html

Which says:

The reason for ending the drop-box facility is that beginning in July 2004, U.S. consular sections in India will start collecting fingerprint impressions from all visa applicants, except those traveling on official government business or who are under age 14 or over age 79.

But I wanted to ask if someone has had similar personal experience. We have sent their documents (visa app DS156 + drafts )for all 3 - sis and kids to the consulate via Bluedart. Also recd confirmation for interview on march 23rd. For interview, I had enetered passport info of all 3 (sis and 2 kids) ...so interview confirmation says confirmation for all 3....

But we were wondering if she needs to take them to the mumbai consulate for the actual interview. Or can she only carry their passports and all other required docs.

Appreciate your help.
