Estimates Taxes and naturalization

Is payment of estimated taxes (1040ES) required for naturalization?

I do not owe the IRS anything for my prior tax years, and have always filed taxes on time and paid the full taxes due each year.

However, as I am self employed, I need to pay IRS estimated taxes every quarter. The last year, I didn't pay any estimated taxes through the year, and had to pay a small penalty when my taxes were due. Can I do the same thing this year, when my naturalization interview is due? Do the IOs care about payment of estimated taxes?

I have obtained "Record of Account" from IRS that shows my account Balance as 0.00 for all tax years. Is that sufficient, or would the IO also expect me to shoe proof of payment of estimated taxes for the current year?

The deadline for tax payment for the current year is April 15th 2010. You are not required to show estimated tax payments for it.

(I am assuming by current year you mean 2009 and that your interview will be held before April 15th 2010)

Thanks

Thanks for clarifying.

I did mean 2009 by current year, and my interview is ahead of the current year tax deadline of April 15th 2010.

I think you need to get Taxes for business out of your personal. What they require is Individual taxes. Because even if you are self employed unless it is a Sole Proprietorship, you still have to file individual taxes separate of how much you made after balancing your books. And so, on a 1040 there is a form for business which will show your company as well.

Anyway, that's what they will need not Company taxes because it is you filing for Citizenship. I own a company too but on my individual taxes show the company as I paid myself.

I filed 3 year rule marriage.
Good luck :)
