Thank you very much for this important informationHello,
I want to take a moment to congratulate everyone who has recently received their granted letters—I can only imagine the relief and joy you must feel! Personally, I’m looking forward to this day for myself (verbal approval on 07/23).
I’ve been reading posts from this group even before I received my approval, and I’ve found it incredibly helpful—not only for the useful information shared but also for the emotional support among all of us waiting in limbo. Today, I’d like to share an email exchange with my attorney, hoping it provides some hope and clarification to members with questions.
I see that some people with verbal approval dates in September 21 have already started receiving their granted letters. For those with earlier approval dates still waiting, I strongly recommend reaching out to your local courts.
Here’s why (based on my attorney’s insights):
They recently attended the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) chapter conference, where a panel featuring Assistant Chief Immigration Judges (ACIJs) from local courts provided some important updates. They confirmed that the approval date listed in your case is accurate. Additionally, approvals are not tracked by individual courts but are managed centrally by EOIR headquarters.
“Here’s how the process works”:
1.EOIR HQ tracks approvals down to the exact day and minute.
2.When a number becomes available, HQ notifies the relevant court.
3.The court then contacts DHS to ensure there are no disqualifying changes, such as an arrest or a dependent aging out (e.g., a child turning 21).
4.Once DHS confirms everything is in order, the court issues the number. If the IJ who initially approved the case has retired, the ACIJ at that court will issue it instead.
If you’re still waiting, with verbal approval from earlier 2021, your case is likely already in the queue but might be delayed at your local court. I would recommend to have your attorney reaching out to check on your case.
Wishing everyone patience and strength and Happy Hollidays!
