Entering hawaii on b-2 visa

Hi. I have a 5 year Multiple entry b-1/b-2 visa. This will be my 5th visit to Hawaii but only my 2nd on the current Multiple visa.

MY question is:

I want to go for 5 months on a b-2 visa. My ticket is for 5 months. Can I enter the U.S with a 5 month ticket and apply for that b-2 at immigration? or am I supposed to enter only on a 3 month ticket and extend it if I am approved for the full 5 months (b-2 visa)?

If you have a B-2 visa, you may seek an entry for 5 months. The admitting officer will decide how long to grant you an entry for.
