Enter US & Vehicle Import on TD Visa

My husband is currently working in the states on TN visa. My son and I have been to the border with him once and got our TD visa (TD card?). All of us are Canadian citizens.

We plan to move (drive) to the states to join him next month and have two questions:

1. Does my husband need to be present with us at the border? Is there any chance the officers need to talk to him when we try to enter on TD visa? - He is in NJ and we plan to enter via Buffalo. If that's the case, it's going to take some time for him to show up :)

2. I need to file vehicle import when we enter. Does he need or is he recommended to be present for that? We are considering driving to the border and complete the vehicle import beforehand next time he is back in Canada, just to make sure there is no surprise when I try to enter by myself. Is it necessary?

Thanks in advance for your help!

1. No, you have TD status, he does not need to be there. In fact, even if you did not have TD, merely taking a copy of his I-94 (TN card) and proff of relationship would have been enough to get TDs.

2. Who owns the car? That would proabaly be best person to import it. You know there are certain steps required for importation (Letter from carmaker, etc), make sure you get those first.

Thanks so much for the quick reply!

2. I own the car. I already got the letter from the manufacturer. Is there anything else?

Thanks again!
