Engagement or Marriage; K1 or K3

I'm originally from India. But currently I'm a USA citizen. Recently I met a girl online but currently she resides in India. I'm looking forward and trying to understand what are my options. (Assuming she can't come to USA by her own).

So I'm not engaged or married yet. I can go to India to get engage or get married or do marriage ceremony. No problem for me. I can do any of them here in usa too. My only goal is to have minimum separation between her and I (after engagement or marriage). Whatever is the best to achieve the goal, I'm ready to do.

Problem is, I'm not clear. Can someone help me? Let me know approximate time involved in all cases. What is the best option for me? Thanks in advance.

Yep, as the others have advised, the K1 would be the quickest option....the time frame from filing your papers to visa issuance is round about 8-10 months.

Just a quick question....since you have only recently met online, have you yet to meet in person? If you havent met yet, then you will have to wait until you meet before you file the K1 papers (that is one of the requirements).

I'll be going to India to meet. Do I have to legally engaged to apply for K1? Is there a duration that i need to know her before applying for K1? I mean, is there a requirement that I need to know her for last 2 yrs or last 1 yrs or last 6 months?
 
Well being 'engaged' is just basically a promise to marry....therefore by saying that you are going to marry your fiance in x number of months is 'being engaged'. You can of course provide a receipt for the ring at the embassy interview for extra evidence, but it isnt necessarily needed. Me and my husband filed our K1 paperwork in September 2007, but he didnt officially propose until March 2008....the ring was too big so he took it back to the States to get resized...in the meantime I had my embassy interview without a ring on and with no receipt.....everything was fine.

As for the whole length of relationship.....there is no timeframe. You just need to be able to prove that the relationship is bona fide, therefore make sure you keep all the emails you exchange, copies of phone bills showing that you are calling one another, cards from one another (even better if youve saved the envelope which has the date and country stamp on etc). The only requirement that they have for K1 is that you have MET at least one time in the past 2 years. So when you go over to meet, make sure you save your boarding pass, hotel receipts etc to prove that you have met (a copy of your entry stamp in your passport will also be good evidence). So once you have met her, you are free to file the paperwork.
