They won't say the real reason they don't like it ... which is that the self-sponsorship would reduce their ability to lock down their employees.

Last week, when word spread of a compromise between the White House and the group of Senators, the bill appeared to shift U.S. immigration tradition, in which family ties mattered significantly, to a heightened employer-based system focused on the new point system. However, tech employers say the point system takes control away from businesses because employers would no longer sponsor green-card applications for specific individuals they want to hire.

Yep, the points system would empower employees....and would reduce so much hassle/misery for them....

The current system gives the control for green card to the employers ....when the real beneficiary is the employee!
Let's get the pimp (employer) out of the way!

The rule is good as long as they don't apply the rule retroactively

You are right. Point system is good for the employee. The problem is there no preference for the people who has more points. For example one got 100 points and another has 60 points then both end up in the same queue.

There should be separate queues based on the points, like EB1 75 – 100 points, EB2 60 - 75 points and EB3 below 60 points. Then I would like it and it's also better for US.

Would not this kill the incentive for employers to offer jobs? In fact in may turn out to be a good thing in the longer run!

I am wondering why the lawyers are making such a hue and cry over the points system. No doubt it has got its flaws... But, I suspect, that this would greatly affect immigrations lawayers' incomes, as they can charge much higher from companies, than they can from individuals!

JMHO.

It would kill the incentives who want to offer jobs only to employees they can exploit. Things would go back to the original intent of employment-based immigration, which is to fill jobs when Americans aren't available.

If an employee is self-sponsoring, if you want to keep them you have to pay them and treat them just as well as you would treat a citizen. So the end result may be fewer jobs, but it would be better jobs.

as an employee, one may prefer point system right now; but when they start their own business, may be not so much.
So what. The same thing can be said for almost any other regulation that protects employees, like anti-discrimination rules, workplace safety, paying for overtime, etc.
