IT is possible INS was approving more citizenship applications these days due to election.

Ok lets see ..
INS is gonna approve more citizens, so they can VOTE ..
and ..
INS is not gonna approve us, so we can continue being tortured as slaves under a gazillion rules in this crappy job market, with no friggin' rights or justice, and our lives in a total disarray, and just delay our applications till the cows come home ..

some thought on human nature and waiting for I-485
It seems reasonable to suggest that the home countries of the most of AOS applicants (India, China, Eastern Europe) have much more tyranic bureaucracies.
I also would suggest that it is a bit cowardly
to be extremely politre when speaking with IIO officer on the phone, yet then call him moron when he can not hear you.
Taking into the account that INS processes millions of applications each year,
and that most US citzens would rather spend money on puiblic education, kicking Suddam's ...
and on keeping the borders safe from illegal immigrants than on hiring more INS workers to speed up the processing of the petitions,
it seems that some patience is needed to all on this forum. It is always most difficult when you can almost see the finish line. Almost is the key word here.
I am sure that some of the forumers who are very nervious now will tell the rest of the folks that INS i"finally started to work" once their applications approved.

P.S. There is a fairy tale in my part of the world:
a handsome rich prince wanted to marry one of
three girls but was not sure which one to choose.
He asked the girls to boil water in identical kettlers, saying that he would marry the one whose kettle boills water first. Naturally two girls were very anxious so they would check every minute( by removing the top of a kettle) if water is boiled. The girl who won and became a princess had the patience not to get too excited- - she did not remove the top cover of the kettle every now and then.
I am very sorry for a very lousy translation.
P.P.S I started my immigration saga in 1998.
My first EB1 was denied. The second one was approved after RFE...

I agree with you that this immigration process can be frustrating at times. I applied for I-140 in EB-OR category (satisfy all the 6 requirements). On-line status check gave me the information that CSC has sent a notice of intent to deny the case though no RFE has been issued. Until now, no mail has yet been received. This leaves one in a quandry of what is happening and what steps one should take. I wish the process were more effective.

New Homeland Security department
It seems a New Homeland Security department will be formed which will include the INS...I hope it improves effeciencies instead of creating new hassles

F&J, I understand your point of being more patient. Yes after more than 1 year of wait only in 485, while every joe bloe schmoe from other centers gets their approval, we should be more patient.
Y'know I could agree to that, if being patient would be the solution. The fact of the matter is (proven by scanning tools), that INS is not working at all, and hasn't been for the last few months now.
So we can either bury our head in the sand and pretend that there is no problem, and let it come to us .. or we can go to it and do something about it.
The least we can do is, get this fact of this incredibly inefficient department to some notice of people in authority. If they still decide on not helping us, our only recourse is to apply for Canadian or Australian immigration. Which, I am sure they donot mind, but it is difficult for us to uproot our entire life every few years.
Oh yea one more comment about departments in China and India being tyrranical. I can speak for India. If a department or an officer behaves in an irrational way like INS is doing here, you need not listen to him. You can disobey rules, and not fear much.
Example, when they tried to implement mandal commission in India, all of India burst into riots, and they had to take it back. Here, they give amnesty to illegals for hispanic vote bank, and all you can do is sit back and take it.
Here, INS .. is an unjust, evil and inefficient department, which unfortunately has enough powers and support from other efficient departments to make sure it's injustice is felt and seen to it's full extent. Example, If they donot approve my EAD, I can't work (Working is gas stations isn't my american dream atleast). In other words, in India/China etc. there is still a recourse, in USA/INS with a non-tyrranical government where one department is tyrranical, it doesn't leave you with a recourse. That is what makes it so bad.
Oh yea and don't give me the crap of "If you don't like it here go back". Killing a crying baby isn't the solution.

While I understand your frustration, I agree that the problem of delay should be escalated and get redressed. When was Indian Govt. took back Mandal commission? It was actually implemented. That too in my state it is 70%. When compared to that I could tolerate any other tyranny of this country.

INS's inefficiency
I am both appalled and sorry to see some of the negative-approaches of some postings in this forum in regard to our discussions on INS’s efficiency.
There has been some arguments that our home country’s system is bad and the fact that INS is better than that should be good enough to give us peace of mind. That is a pathetic way of excusing INS’s inefficiency.
When we are trying hard to escape the injustices and inefficiencies of our home country, how can we at the same time defend another inefficient and unjust org like INS and their policies under any pretext by citing reference to those same injustices that we suffered in our own country.
We are qualified and legitimate applicants to get the PR in this country. It would have been much easier to digest INS’s injustices if it were not the fact that they are granting Residency and citizenship to less qualified/illegal parties as a matter of gaining political advantages. That is unfair and we got to have the gut to say so.
This is the lives of thousands and their sufferings we are talking about. No other US dept adopts/inflicts the kind injustice and sufferings that INS and its policies do.
We suffered and kept silent in the face of tyranny and injustice in our own country. But why do we need to be the same cowardly/oppressed here also. This is supposed to be the land of justice. Being subject to injustice and keeping silence in the face of that injustice, kills the very spirit of living the American dream.
I got to go now - FBI is knocking at my door.

If you can read the post by f&j more carefully you perhaps would be able to understand (at least when you are not too excited and do not call people morons and idiots, which is, by the way, is forbidden on this forum) that nobody suggested just to wait and see. What was suggested is not to get so anxious that you can not think rationally.
