I know few friends of mine waiting from 2000 to get there green cards, today after seeing the visa bulletein they have decided to sell their homes and go back, atleast 2 of them have decided fully and plan to sell their house by this month end.If this is the case it will have adverse affect on housing market and economy too.Bush wake up and do something.

Lets do something abt it

Goras making sure that no more Indians can make it to the top....Career stagnation.

Here is what we should pursue...

I guess you are right, but I believe that people in our shoes should be upwards of 10-20 thousand. If we can unite and make our point, as a group or through our companies, it can make an impact. We are not helpless uneducated people, we can hurt this economy and we can hurt it bad.

Lets see how much the US companies really need H1B workers. If they dont then there is anyway no point working here.....On H1B you have no nogotiating power around your job and job growth and you stand exploited big time (either by consultants or even big companies themselves)...We can form an organization or something and threaten to leave this country enmass.....I am sure when thousands unite the companies will call up the Govt to take some action...

I know its a risk, but I think its worth taking...otherwise we will be sitting helplessly forever...for the Us Govt and Employers to take advantage of us.

Career stagnation:you are totally correct.

What you said is correct. One of my major concerns is that I am pretty much unable to move on to a better position. Five YEARS working for same employer, same occupation. That is not what the IT industry is about. I simply don't buy this idea of AC21 portability, because I already had a chance to use this. It is a real hassle that makes you prove jobs "are same or similar". In this process, it bears some risks to have your I-485 application compromised somehow as reported by my lawyer.

Honestly, we need to unite big time. At minimum we should hire a good lawyer. I am willing to donate $ to hire a lawyer to represent us.

Stupid Dates

As long as Companies are getting new H1B or sending work to off shore, they will not have any problems.
Atleast your friends are lucky to have some equity in "own" house. Think about people like us who are still staying in Apt (since it is Contract job) never know when we have to change city. with higher gas and other expenses and then waiting and waiting for never ending GC dream.
In BBC Article today, they have mentioned about Child Labor and Low Wage Exploitation in India, from my point of view our statys is nothing different than "Bonded Labor". Only it is that we earn here 100$ and spend 33$ on taxes, 50$ on expenses and remaining on GC Process.

Fighting for GC

I am also willing to donate $ to hire a lawyer to represent us or fight.
I am sure the attorneys will be also interested as they may not have much to do except filling LCA/Perm.

We should be hearing from the big attorneys in a day or two.

Let us open a separate thread to start and if possible put attention of the local congressman or senators

Lets put pressure thru Big Comapnies - and all other Employers

I would think most of us would be willing to shell out money to take care of this issue....
I have sent emails to Colorado Senators....but unless the USCIS gets a legal notice..or a letter from Major employers or both bundled into ONE (that this is affecting big companies like Cisco, Miscrosoft), they will not move a feather, but just sit on their ass....With the economy picking up and Jobs avaialble...and companies needing more workforce, this is the right time to draw attention by threatening mass exodus. I think thats the only way things will move fast.. Faster as the Legal system may be in this country, filing a suit against Govt..in any country is a time cousuming affair. We have to get the backing of big companies and push forward with that cause.

We should get everyone under the same umbrella...and convey this to their employers. Make a case or we quit.....If we can do that in large numbers....I am sure companies will take notice and subsquently the USCIS...

Jonty I like your noble idea. But how practical is it? Just sit down and think it over.
One question - You are talking about mass quiting. In any case you want to go back. So why can't you do favor for your fellow citizen. Just give an interview in front of camera about the shitty USCIS. And by doing that I don't think anything will happen to you but you will bring shitty uscis into limelight. Tell me are you ready? I will make arrangement for you to talk to major TV channel?
