Effect of Credit History on H1B Visa

Hello,

I have lived as a MBA student in US until December 2010 and then I got job in Belgium ( Europe), Since then I am in Belgium. Now my company wants to send me back to US and would be applying for my H1B visa over next month or so. While my stay as a student in US, I owned three credit cards ( Bank of America, Chase and Sears) and I had cumulative debt of $6000, which did not payed because I did not had enough money at that time.

Now my question is, is there a possibility that my H1B visa would be declined because I have defaulted the credit card payments. If this is a possibility, is there is solution to get rid of this problem.

Thanks and appreciate your help

H1 has nothing to do with your Credit Card payments. FYI H1 can be filed by US employer.

Your debts have nothing to do with your status, but have everything to do with you. Once you get back to the US the debt collectors will be on to you, and might contact your employer in order to get your contact information (and this is legal). I suggest you check on your credit report, contact the collector agencies and try to negotiate and pay off your debt.
