Hi,

I applied for H1B in premium processing.
Now INS is looking for an "Education
Equivalency Report". What is that? If
I do not have the report will it be a
problem? What else can I do?
By the way, I do not have any degree
from USA.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Where did you get your degree from? INS may request to have your qualification evaluated as equivalent to the US degree. You may have to approach the concerned university or association in your state. Which INS service center have you applied to?

How much post qualification experience have you got?

The I 129 form mentions

1. A copy of the persons US degree as required by the speciality occupation.
2. A copy of Foreign degree and evidence it is equilant to the US degree, or
3. Evidence of education and experience which is equivalent to the US degree.

Hope it helps

they will ceritify that your foreign degree is equivalent to a 4 year US degree like a BSEE , also for foriegn M.E. , MSc , Mtech degrees

Thanks

Thanks Raman, for the reply.
(1) I got my BE from Calcutta, India.
(2) I have 7 years of post degree experience.

Hi Bubi,

A BE degree with 5 years progressive experience might be considered by the INS as equivalent to Masters or Advanced degree; and you have 7 years. How many years experience does your job (you applied in the US) call for? And which INS center have you applied thro?

A lawyer may advice better.

Education equivalency report

Please note, this advice is generic, please contact a specific lawyer.

Degrees from outside of the U.S. must be evaluated by a degree evaluation service. The purpose of the evaluation is to determine the American equivalent, which is not always apparent from the wording or title of the degree.

Thanks again Raman

Dear Raman,

Thanks for replying.
I applied in Vermont center.
7 years is actually enough for
the job I applied for.
