Is it possible to change from EB3 category to EB2 category after you file for the green card. I have filed under EB3 category for labor and wanted to know if it is feasible to change the category at the I-140 or I-485 stages. If yes then what are the things I should be looking at (salary increase, a new job description). Please advise.

EB3/Eb2 is decided at I140 stage, but preparation is done at Labour.
Check your Labour certification. If it states that
the job requires Master\'s degree or Master\'s but BS+5 is
acceptable, AND your educational qualifications are equivalent
to BS or MS in the US, you can apply for EB-2 classification in the I-140 stage. Otherwise you have do labour again.
 
Thanks Baba Yaga, But one more clarification

What if the job requires only BS plus 3 years per the labor certification and if I have an MS, will I be able to change to it EB2 at I-140 (saying MS plus 3 years exp as reqd by the job), or just stay with BS. Can you please confirm this aspect as well.

Even if you have a Ph.D....It all depends on the job requirements....If it requires BS+3yrs. experience, you\'ll be EB-3....
If it requires MS plus experience(optional), you\'ll be classified as EB-2.....
