EB2 How long is the wait?- Advice

Hello friends,

I am a new member to this forum and website, and i have been trying to digest all the information in the bulletins, FAQs to the GC process.

I am thinking of applying in the EB2 category, and to my understanding under PERM, labor is fast, but then there is a long wait for I 140, I 485 etc. In fact my friends are telling me it will take 6-8 years easily. Is that the case as per your experience and knowledge.

Please let me know. I will appreciate any comments/advice you might have.

Adding to the message above I have the following question:

I joined part-time in my company as a Database Engineer two and half years back. I was doing my Masters then. As soon as I got my masters degree (after 3 months) I converted to full time employee. I have been working in the company with H-1 for two years now. I am now Database Engineer II which is more advance position. The position requires more experiences and masters degree.

Now, when I am applying for green card (which my company is willing to now) how can I apply on eb-2 category? Do I make an advertisement for my position when I got hired or do I use my current position? When I got hired as part time I did not have master's degree, does that complicate things?

My chargeability area is India. So i assume this will have an effect in term of the retrogression dates.
 
Assuming no change in law, it will take both EB-2 and EB-3 India anywhere between 15 to 25 years to get to today's date.
