My I-140 under category EB1A just got approved after RFE, denial and appeal (Motion To Reopen). I hired a lawyer to handle my case, but I regreted to do so and actually I fired her and did Motion to Reopen myself, which was just approved.
My case was not very strong. My field is engineering. I have about 20 publications with very limited citations, a best paper award in a small conference, some local newspaper report about the institution I worked for regarding the research projects I was involved, 6 reference letters (3 international, 3 US; 2 of them are independent), and about 10 reviews for journal papers (this was added in RFE and not originally included).
I hired a famous lawyer, for which I regret for what I did that time. It cost about 5000 USD for EB1A case and another 5000 USD for NIW. They don't even worth a quarter of this amount because I had to write pretty much everything. Anything the lawyer drafted were poorly organized and logically wrong. I think they just put my information into one of their templates and send them back to me. I spend lots of time rewrite those letters. The petition letter was fine, pretty much the best we can do at that time. Only because my background not strong enough, I got an RFE. We were given 30 days to respond, but the lawyer was to take 28 of those 30 days for conferences and vacations. He simply found another lawyer in their firm to handle my RFE. The replacement lawyer was not good and not responsible. I put together a very strong RFE case and emailed everything to him, but he missed the most important information in the RFE package. The most unbelievable thing is that he sent to USCIS without my approval! So "surprisely" we received a denial notice. We pointed out that it was the lawyer's fault and they should do a MTR for free for me. They used a million excuses and refused to do so. So I decided to appeal by myself. I did it and 3 months later our I-140 petition was reopened and approved.
I remember I came here many times trying to find a DIY package (a real one, not the kind that people put together just to make some money). But I cannot find one like that. So I would like to share my EB1A package with RFE and MTR with others in this forum. But I cannot give it out free, not only because I spent a lot of money and time on it, but also because it will take lots time to remove my personal information from hundreds and hundreds of pages (more than 10 lb after printed out). I would like to ask for $300.00 or best offer. If your offer is lower than this and you are the only one interested, I probably prefer not to take time to do this package. I am not intended to make money out of this, but rather help people who want to do DIY.
I also have a partially completed NIW package with only recommendation letters done. But I bought two DIY NIW packages prior to my hiring of attorney. These DIY packages were not real packages, but rather put together just to make money, I didn't like them. But you can use them as reference.
