EB1 vs NIW advice needed

Hi,

I'm in the process of filing I-140 (self petition). I had planned to file under EB1 but I'm having second thought since it seems my credentials are better suited for NIW.

Essentially I'm currently a Post-Doc in environmental engineering (masters and bachelors in chemical).

I've been working on DOD sponsored projects for the past 5 years (as a student and postdoc). My work has been of major significance to the DOD. However mainly, due to the nature of the sponsors and the projects (sensitive data), I have 3 journal articles (very major contributions), 2 peer reviewed conference proceedings, 9 conference presentations (I got an award for best student presentation at one), 5 very strong recommendation letters highlighting the significance of my research to the army (money saved) and the field of environmental engineering (I couldn't get any from anyone directly from the army. stuff about authorizations and what not), reviewer for one journal, membership in two professional organizations (one as a senior member), and my dissertation was published as a monograph.

I was only originally motivated to file EB1 because a colleague's petition was approved in 2000 with similar credentials to what I have now. I don't know if times have changed. What do you guys advice?

Also, I'm from Nigeria. What's the advantage of being approved under EB1 as opposed to NIW?

Thanks

Thanks. I guessed as much. Someone said there might be a processing time advantage at the I-140 stage. Is this true? I mean does Eb1 get processed faster than NIW?

Not necessarily. My own impression (and it's only an impression) is that people who file 2 I-140s together (which is perfectly legal) in different categories tend to have both a bit delayed compared to having only filed one. But as for which one gets processed faster, that's all circumstantial. If you feel your case is too weak for EB-1 (which indeed it might be), EB-2/NIW will not put you at a disadvantage I-485-wise.
